Dual, Twofold, Double. What do these words have in common? They all represent two pieces that make up a whole. Whether it be a 50/50 split or some other fractional equivalent of 100%. Both pieces are needed to form a complete unit, while maintaining its own unique characteristic and function.
Dual density foams normally consist of a firm layer bonded to a softer layer. The firm layer dispenses impact, while the softer layer absorbs the shock. In some cases, the duality is combined with special coloring of the layers. One the major reasons for making the layers different colors is to assist in the proper use/placement of the foam in the application.
CVEFP Ear Plush foam is a great representation of dual-color usage. The combination of orange and green helps the user identify the correct insertion depth for effective noise reduction.
Crown Foam Technologies provides up to three color layers (depending upon gauge).
Dual Density foams work in a multitude of applications ranging from (but not limited) to moisture, air and sound barrier resistance. Dual Density foams are available in a multitude of custom gauge and color options.
In today’s market some dual density products are laminated together. The lamination process can result in an insufficient bond should too little adhesive be used or adhesive overflow if excessive adhesive is used.
Crown Foam Technologies uses an exclusive fusion technology to heat bond the layers together without the use of adhesives. This exclusive technology helps to reduce customer cost and is more ecologically friendly than products utilizing solvent based adhesives.
